Martin Skarka

Illustration, Comic and Cosplay

This is what I do,
have a look.

My work

I dress as Sherlock Holmes for events like Comic Con. Otherwise I make Illustrations and draw comics, mostly short ones to try out different things. A lot of my artwork doesn’t get to the finished stage, those can be found in the sketchbook.

You can meet me as Sherlock Holmes at various conventions

Wearing a costume
is more fun than most
people think.

So, a lot of people think Benedict Cumberbatch looks like me. At first I thought it to be a joke, but eventually I said: Challenge accepted!

I don’t really consider myself a cosplayer. I have one costume: Sherlock Holmes; in two variations and that’s it. I like to wear it for conventions and sometimes around town, when I feel like it.

Illustration

Pretty images. some of them funny, some of them adorable.

Finishing stuff
is not my strongest point

Finished stuff. In other words paintings and drawings I am really proud of.

Mostly digital paintings and digital drawing. let’s face it, painting is hard and it’s way easier to paint digitally than to mess around wit physical media. I do use physical median sometime, but not very often. Usually I just remind myself of how hard are they to use.

Comics

Collection of short comics I have done so far.

this is my
favorite category.

I love stories and I love images. Comics are great at combining both of them.

I do mostly short comics, to try out different styles and techniques. I try to make at least one a year, so it can be published in Czech anthology for non professional artists called: Vějíř.

Sketchbook

yay, sketches! The fun stuff.

Sketches are
as much fun to make
as they are fun
to look at.

I enjoy looking at sketches more, than looking at finished art.

Sketches are magical in their imperfections and the way how forms are just quickly suggested rather them fully rendered. it makes them so alive, by giving you chance to take a part in the creative process, using your imagination, when filling in the blanks.

About Me

Hello, my name is Martin
and the tentacly alien is my trusty sidekick TO

TO is a character from my comic and I like to use him as a kind of an alter ego. What he says here on a web page is mix of my own voice and a role play what I think would be his line in case this web page was a comic.
